The United States Mint American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year initiative recognizing innovation and innovators across all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. The coins included in these rolls and bags were produced at both the Philadelphia and Philadelphia Mints. The Iowa coin marks the first release for 2026.
The reverse (tails) design of the Iowa American Innovation $1 Coin features Dr. Norman Borlaug holding a sheaf of wheat and wheat stalks, honoring his groundbreaking contributions to the development of robust crop varieties capable of supporting an expanding global population. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IOWA,” “NORMAN BORLAUG,” and “FATHER OF THE GREEN REVOLUTION.”
The obverse (heads) design presents a distinguished profile depiction of the Statue of Liberty, accompanied by the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The design incorporates a privy mark consisting of a stylized gear to symbolize industry and innovation; in 2026, this privy mark will also feature a Liberty Bell with the inscription “250” to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Nation’s founding.
This American Innovation $1 Coin Bag – Iowa contains 100 circulating quality coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The year of minting, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on the edge of each coin.
