In 2014, the United States Mint introduced a highly esteemed commemorative coin program. The program honored the National Baseball Hall of Fame and comprised three coins featuring a common design and an innovative domed shape.
The reverse design, established through the standard design selection process, featured the image of a baseball, complementary to the convex shape of the reverse surface. The inscriptions on this side read “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, and “One Dollar”.
The silver dollars were minted with a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper, measuring 1.500 inches in diameter, 0.243 inch in height, and weighing 26.73 grams. Both proof and uncirculated versions were produced at the Philadelphia Mint with an overall maximum mintage of 400,000 pieces.
