The 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Half Dollar was issued as part of the commemorative coin program celebrating the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Although this clad half dollar was not required to have a domed shape like the other two coins in the program, the United States Mint went beyond the legislative requirements and successfully struck the coin with a distinctive domed form.

This coin was notable for being the first instance where a national mint produced a domed or curved-shaped coin using non-precious metal. It consisted of 8.33% nickel, with the remainder copper, weighing 26.73 grams and having an overall height of 0.243 inches.

The obverse of the coin featured a baseball glove, along with the inscriptions “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and “2014”. The reverse depicted a baseball and included the inscriptions “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, and “Half Dollar”. The obverse design was created by Cassie McFarland and engraved by Don Everhart, who also designed and engraved the reverse.

The half dollar was produced in proof format at the San Francisco Mint and bears the "S" mint mark, while the uncirculated format was minted at the Denver Mint with the "D" mint mark. The authorizing legislation set a maximum mintage of 750,000 units for both versions.
